In 1978, Sverdrups Gate 27 opened its doors as the office of the Norwegian petroleum directorate. For many years, the building played an important role in ushering Norway and the region into the oil age. 

Since then, Smedvig has transformed the building into a sustainable and flexible office with a community of people focused on creating solutions for the green transition.

Throughout the rebuild, the focus has been on preserving the original building, reusing materials, and adding wood in new building components. The building has a BREAAM NOR “Very Good” certification, with a robust and reliable energy solution from geothermal energy wells and solar panels on the roof.
